Leadership I developed at Fork Union Military Academy?

Playing on the post graduate team as a 12th grader took my game to the next level. I was competing with division 1 players in practice every day.

But aside from basketball, this school is a really tough place to be at, but great to be from. This has been been the hardest experience in my life but also the best. Waking up at 5:45 in the morning and living the military lifestyle is a challange. No phones are allowed, lights out at 10pm, and so many more rules that are required make you so locked in on your goals. No distractions, its just me and the bond you build with your brothers each and every day. It is a different type of connection, we go through it all together. I still stay in touch with my teammates all the time and I can wait to run it back one more time. My dream is to play college basketball for free so my parents do not have to work so hard to come up with money for me that they don´t have.

This school instills discipline and responsibility. There are consequences for mistakes and a high standard that is expected of us everyday. I have a leadership rank off the court. My rank is called platoon Sargent, I am in charge of 1st floor, which is where our team stays. I call cadences when we march, make sure everybody is in step, hands out of their pockets, waking up in time, and more. I may not see it now, but this school will shape me into a man of character and integrity, a leader on the court and off. This school has made me a leader and I can wait to LEAD the new guys and show them how they can use Fork Union Military Academy to get them to be the best versions of themselves on and off the court.
